“NO KINGS” MARCH SATURDAY OCT 18TH PHOTOS & FEEDBACK
Letter To The Editor - Hood County News
Victoria Butler, HCDC President 2024-2025
What a sad time in America as our Country, The Constitution and Freedom of Speech is constantly being attacked. I never thought there would come a day when we would be facing the hatred of political parties could be so violent.
Once again, as the Granbury Hood County citizens participated in a peaceful "No Kings" march that was happening in many cities throughout the United States, the participants were taunted with vulgar language and name calling by ("so-called Christians") the political opposition to the "No Kings" march at the Granbury square.
There were several incidents with the opposition wielding their umbrellas as swords as they shouted vulgar language in front of children as the marchers walked past them.
On several incidents, the local law enforcement had to intervene to deescalate the violent actions intended to intimate the peaceful citizen participants from exercising their Constitutional Right of Freedom of Speech.
As disappointing, yet not surprising actions continued throughout the march, "We the people" persevered, determined to stand their ground and exercise their Constitutional right to Free Speech in spite of the failed bullying and intimidation tactics demonstrated by the disruptive and disrespectful actions of those opposing the marchers. A reported 7 million U.S. citizens took to the streets for the March. They are making it clear that we love our Country and will not stay silent to protect our rights as human beings of the United States of America!
Many thanks to the Officers that stepped in to keep the peace and protect the peaceful demonstrators.
FEEDBACK ON THE “NO KINGS” March
The “No Kings” march was a huge success around the world! Granbury participated in a peaceful march exercising their Constitutional Right to Free Speech. Feedback from various citizens was uplifting. (See below)
we are a representative democracy. a president is not imbued with the power of a king.
my family fled to america from ireland in the 1600's and fought for our freedom from a tyrant in the revolutionary war and in wwii.
we will not go back…….
It was great. We were having a good time, refused to engage with hecklers, and supported the country we love……
no kings in the usa…..
positive to see a few other like minded people and talk with them. negative but not surprising in granbury to see the behavior of the counter protesters - got a little rattled by the belligerence and proximity of a few of them. we have lived here decades- my wife was born and raised here. my brother has long called this klanbury. nothing surprising today. oh, i did see 2 sheriff deputies defuse a situation where a counter protester claimed a no kings person assaulted him. i saw nearly the whole exchange. no assault……
i'm glad i was able to attend and that everyone was respectful...im92 and remember wwii and what men died for.we must never forget…..
we had a great turnout in one of the most hard-core trump counties in texas. it was good. the counter protesters were obnoxious, but we maintained a good mood and only engaged them in brief spurts…..
Well planned, safety measures, good time!
